Old School Dating Tips for Men
We live in an age where technology plays a big role in the world of dating. It’s a society where women are no longer relegated to staying in the home. There are even some women who feel perfectly comfortable with being the ones who make the first move. Some of the old ways of thinking are now considered outdated and chauvinistic. There are aspects of both gender roles that have made incredible transformations as people change their views.
On the other hand, there are some dating traditions that still stand strong in the face of an evolving society. In fact, taking care of simple things like manners and courtesy can stand out in today’s society. When your competition is becoming more lax with the way they behave, being a gentleman can go a long way to impressing your date. So while some old school thinking can be discarded with ease, there is a lot to learn from tradition as well. Here are some dating tips for men that will never go out of style.
1. Hold the door open for your date. Whether your date is getting into a car or leaving a restaurant, take this simple step of holding the door open for her. It’s a small gesture that shows you have manners. Also hold her chair for her when she is sitting down. If she takes it the wrong way there is nothing you can do about that, just remember that your intentions were good.
2. Compliment your date. Chances are the object of your affection has spent several hours getting ready for your date. Even a simple comment on how great she looks can let her know you appreciate her efforts.
3. Show up on time or be early. If you arrange a date then you should stick forum with the time that you have agreed upon. It shows a lack of respect to show up late and it puts you date into an uncomfortable position if she’s not even sure you’re coming at all. So take the steps necessary to be there on time, or earlier.
4. Dress up. When you take steps necessary to look your best it shows a level of respect for your date. It tells her that she is important enough for you to want to look good. If you show up to your date in a tattered sweat shirt and jeans, she’s not going to feel very special. Remember that this not only applies to your clothing, but also whether or not you shower, shave, or have your hair trimmed.
5. Pay for the date. Sorry cheapskates, there’s just no way around this one. You’re a guy and this is your responsibility.
6. Drink responsibly or not at all. The worst thing you can do is get drunk on a date. You will make a horrible first impression and she will wonder if you have a drinking problem. To ensure that you don’t get into trouble, don’t tempt yourself and stay away from drinking completely.
7. No hanky panky. Calling it “hanky panky” is admittedly old school in and of itself, but you know what we mean. If you want to be a true gentleman then you won’t put any moves on her on the first date, or even the second and beyond until you get to know her. Even going in for a kiss might not be the best move so assess the situation carefully.
8. Be polite no matter what. Even if your date is going horribly and she happens to annoy you like nothing else, be a gentleman and carry on with class. Get to the end of the date and finish it off in the friendliest way possible. Above all else, don’t tell her that you will call if you have no intention to do so.
9. Make the date about her. It doesn’t matter if you really like to go hiking and want to do it on a first date. If she has absolutely no interest, then you should pick something else. Make her feel special by putting some thought into planning your date. It doesn’t have to be too expensive or elaborate, just show her that you have her in mind.
10. Don’t swear. It seems these days people swear a lot more in casual conversation. But try to keep the curse words to a minimum because they can register in somebody’s subconscious. If you can’t hold a conversation without peppering it was swear words you shouldn’t be on a date anyways.
